Incarcerated veterans are finding a new since of purpose by training dogs to help other veterans on the outside who suffer from PTSD. After two tours in Iraq, an inmate named Kasey who suffers from similar traumatic combat disorder is severing twenty years at Stafford Creek Corrections Center for aggravated assault.
Training service dogs costs $30,000 on average and takes about six months to train the dogs but thanks to inmates like Kasey it’s done for free. Training service dogs allows the inmates to regain their humanity and in the end, they’re helping their brothers in arms get a new lease on life.
