71-year-old Bob Allsup the letter he received in the mail saying that his dog tag that he lost 48 years ago in Vietnam had been found was spam. But when her received the dog tag in mail a few days later, Bob felt like he’d gotten a piece of himself back.
While he’s had so many memories good and bad between 1969 and now, Bob still remembers the night he lost the tag. It came off his boot the night his platoon was ambushed. He still has the scars from the bullets that hit him in the ankle.
Bob told CBS, “(It’s) part of your identity I guess, when you’re over there and the events that happened … the most impactful period of your life.”
