A ‘novel’ way for those on deployment to feel closer to home. Military families continually struggle to find ways to connect with their loved ones overseas and children often have a hard time understanding why their parents have to leave them behind.
Nicki Broom and her seven year old daughter, Olivia, are no different. The first few times dad called him Olivia refused to speak to him and that is when her mom turned to Reading Force.
Olivia chose a book to read with her dad while he’s on deployment and now when he calls they talk about the book they are reading together. It helps bridge the gap distance creates and provides a tangible way children can connect with their parents while they are away.
Now, Olivia has something to talk to whenever her dad calls and she looks forward to those calls.
