Stopping and getting out of his car in the pouring rain to salute a fallen Soldier that he didn’t know was something Colonel Jack L. Usrey thought would help lift the spirits of the mourners who were on their way to say goodbye to a loved one.
“I just did what my parents taught me to do growing up,” said Col. Usrey, who has served more than twenty-nine years in the service. Currently works as the Senior Army Advisor to the Adjutant General at Tennessee National Guard Headquarters in Nashville.
While Col. Usrey was just doing what his parents taught him the internet is absolutely moved by the simple gesture. Especially Erin Hester who was behind him when the procession passed and captured the photo that has been shared over a hundred and thirty-three thousand times.
