“OMG Birthday surprise…My son, Cameron, stared his military service just over a year ago and on July 4th shipped out to Germany for a 3-year deployment. The bond between he and his mother is very strong and she has missed him greatly. Knowing that, my son and I started planning a birthday surprise for her. Her birthday was the third weekend of January. I flew my son to Nashville TN where he was picked up by our daughter and son-in-law (who is also in the Army). It is noteworthy that our daughter and son-in-law recently moved to Tennessee following a 3-year deployment to Alaska, so it’s been a while since we have had the whole family together.
My Cameron stayed with his sister the first night and the following day my wife and I started the 5.5-hour trip to her house. About 30 minutes before we got there I noticed my wife was crying. Not sure what that was about I asked what was going on and she told me that it was the song on the radio. The song “Letters from Home” was playing. She said that she was missing Cameron.
Upon arriving at her house, I asked if we could make a video tour of her new house since it was unlikely that my mother would ever be able to see it due to health reasons. What you see is the tour and then the big reveal about 2 minutes in. OMG what a surprise it was…we will never be able to top this birthday surprise!” – Scott Friedlein
