At the beginning of Staff Sergeant Jon Joyner’s deployment his daughter 10-year-old Emma Joyner had one request, that he surprise her upon his return. When Christmas came around, SSgt. Joyner asked what Emma wanted for Christmas and her answer was “you, obviously”. But SSgt. Joyner wouldn’t be able to return from Afghanistan for several months. With help from the Stewarts Creek Elementary staff and their Parent Teacher Organization setting up a contest that Emma was the winner of and having dad surprise her with the prize. SSgt. Joyner had even gone as far as to video call Emma the night before from their garage so that she would think he was still in Afghanistan.
