Marine Corporals Otto Thiele, Christopher Ehms and Eric Goodman and Lance Corporals Antonio Martinez and Avelardo Guevara Osuna went for a hike up Mount Fuji and when they were on their way down a man in need of help flagged them down.
He led them to his daughter, Moe Oda, who had a fever and was convulsing. The man tried to ask them to help get his daughter down the mountain. Thiele, Goodman, Martinez and Osuna quickly put their skills to work and made a stretcher out of their shirts and walking sticks while Ehms went ahead to get medical assistance. The Marines got Oda to mountain rescue where they tried to revive her before transporting her to the hospital.
