After losing their son at birth, Brooke Lowe-Farmer and her husband, Michael, were hurt. Now with a little girl on the way, her husband on deployment Brooke felt alone and to make matters worse they discovered that their baby girl would be born with a cleft lip. With so many things causing concern Brooke’s doctors did everything possible to care for this family and their new addition.
A serviceman himself, Dr. Jason Picconi understood the hardships that Brooke and Michael were facing. Brooke told KSFY, “Dr. Picconi actually let me take my iPad in to every visit, every ultra sound and talk to him like he was just right there in the room…He just let him be a part of every visit and it was an amazing experience from that first ultra sound all the way through.”
It was that same extra compassion that helped to ease Brooke and Michael’s worries. When it was time to deliver baby Emmalynn, doctors went out of their way to make sure Michael was right Brooke’s side even though he was thousands of miles away. Even though he was tuning in through Skype doctors made sure that he was as much a part of the delivery as if he was there in person.
