Vietnam Veteran Mike Jaynes joined the Navy a week after he graduated in 1961. While those years seem to be far behind him now that he’s in hospice care, a proper thank you while he’s able to enjoy it was fitting. OhioHealth Hospice wanted to honor Mike with a pinning ceremony. Mike couldn’t think of any one better to do the honors than his Marine granddaughter, Kateri Jaynes, who was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After nearly two years since she had seen her grandfather, Kateri considered it a great honor that he chose her. The ceremony ended with Mike going on motorcycle ride around the block.
Mike told Mansfield News Journal “I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I’ll be wore out for two or three days, but that’s OK.”
