Marine Corps veteran dog handler Joseph Fahrenbach served with military dog Fuli from December 2012 to January 2015, including a six-month deployment to Afghanistan. In September of 2017 Fahrenbach was informed that Fuli was retiring, but unfortunately, he could not adopt him because he had been diagnosed with leukemia in July. Mission K9 Rescue adopted Fuli until he could recover.
