As an employee in the engineering department at the VA Hospital it’s not a requirement for Jason Iles to know how to perform CPR. Fortunate for Vietnam veteran Daniel Maillet, Jason did know CPR and by chance he decided to take the hospital’s main elevator that day. Daniel collapsed after the doors closed and Jason immediately went into action.
“I couldn’t get him to roll over because he was so tense. Whenever we got to the third floor the doors had opened up. He was just the deepest, darkest purple I’d ever seen.” Jason told KALB
When the doors opened, Jason pulled him from the elevator and began giving Daniel chest compressions until first responders arrived. Proving just how important those first five minutes are.
