Being a parent means loving your children more than you’ve ever loved yourself. For Army Sergeant Desiree Lancey the sacrifices that she makes for her family now are worth its ‘long-term gain.’
After spending the that year in Kuwait, putting a smile on her son, Kael’s face was worth it. Sgt. Lancey hadn’t wrapped her arms around him since Christmas so waiting for the big reveal was torture.
She told RocketCityNow “It’s hard being in the military, being away from them so much. But seeing his face…when I walked in and I saw his face I couldn’t breathe, and I was so excited.”
Kael and his classmates were working on a history project when Sgt. Lancey entered the room disguised as the school’s mascot. The class began singing the National Anthem when she took unmasked and sent Kael into a emotional dart to her arms.
When asked how it felt to have his mom home, Kael was at a loss for words and responded by giving her a big hug.
