It hasn’t been easy for Gold Star* mother Peggy Green since she lost her son, Lance Corporal Troy Gregory in Desert Storm.
Peggy suffers from a spinal injury, glaucoma, and is almost legally blind. After Troy’s death, Peggy purchased her home as a final gift from her son, she calls it “Troy’s house”. The home needs a great number of repairs after a fire left it unlivable. It may have seemed as though Peggy didn’t have much to celebrate on Mother’s Day until she found out that she was surround by the brotherhood who served with her son.
In addition to a room full of loving sons to appreciate this mother received a gift like no other. The Marine’s gathered funds for her home repairs and medical expenses through a GoFundMe account.
*The Gold Star name came from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in the windows of their homes during WWI. The Service Flag had a star for each family member in the Armed Forces. Living servicemen were represented by a blue star, and those who had lost their lives in combat were represented by a gold star.
