Lee Hernandez has a dying wish: he just wants to hear from people. The 18-year Army veteran, who served in Iraq, has continuous strokes that have taken away his vision and other functions. He’s under hospice care at his home in Texas, where doctors haven’t been able to find the problem after three brain surgeries. Lee gave his phone to his wife Ernestine in case anyone called. After hours without any calls, Lee said to Ernestine, “I guess no one wants to talk to me.” A heartbroken Ernestine took his message to the veterans group, Caregivers of Wounded Warriors. They have spread Lee’s wish across the internet. The veteran has been showered with well wishes now. Ernestine reads the messages to Lee and the couple are thankful for the support. “Thank you, everyone, for your calls and support,” said Ernestine. “I am trying to give him the best life I am able to with the help of my mom.”
